Windows Mobile 6.1 has SMS (text message) threading feature, which commonly known as conversation thread mode made famous by Gmail. With SMS conversation threading enabled, the SMS will be grouped into a style similar to IM (instant messaging) chat, with sent SMS text messages appearing in both Sent Items and Inbox.
The SMS threading feature in enabled and turned on by default in all Windows Mobile 6.1 (WM6.1) powered Pocket PC Phone device such as HTC P3400 Gene and HTC Touch Diamond. Although conversation thread may be useful in clarity and easiness to read the related text messages in series, but not all users preferring the new format of reading the text messages.
To disable and turn off the SMS threading or the text messages conversation mode in Windows Mobile 6.1 device, simply install a Registry Editor (such as CoRegEditor or PHM Registry Editor, see also how to install PHM RegEdit in newer Windows Mobile system), and then navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\
Under the registry key, create a new DWORD value with value name as SMSInboxThreadingDisabled and set it value data to 1.
Alternatively, download and apply the following DisableSMSThreading.cab file (unpack from the ZIP archive) on the PPC Phone device to automatically install the required registry key. Note that the .CAB file also install the registry key to force enable the Sent SMS notification bubble.
Soft reset the Windows Mobile device to make the change (without text messages conversation threading) effective.

In Windows 7, when a user uses mouse to double click or press Enter key to open, explorer or drill down on a drive or folder, the folder trree on the navigation pane of Windows Explorer does not automatically expand the navigation pane’s tree to show and display current folder or directory user is at. In other words, Windows 7 Explorer’s navigation pane will stay at top level of a drive or folder, and does not expand the sub-folders branches, unless user manually expand the folder tree.
The behavior of Windows 7 Explorer is a total change from Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 or earlier Windows operating system, where the Windows Explorer’s navigation pane will always automatically expand the folder tree to show the deepest or lowest level of folders been opened or arrived at.
Windows 7 actually does possess such ability to automatically expand navigation pane of Windows Explorer to current folder, but it’s turned off and disabled by default. For users who prefer that the navigation pane expands to follow their path into nested folders, the trick is indeed easy.
How to Make Windows Explorer Automatically Expand Navigation Pane to Current Folder in Windows 7
1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Click on Organize pull down menu.
3. Click on Folder and search options.
4. Under the “Navigation pane” section, select and tick the check box for Automatically expend to current folder option.
5. Click OK.
With the setting enabled, the navigation pane of Windows 7 Explorer will automatically expand when user goes to sub-folder.
Apple Inc’s iPhone is famous for its multi-touch capabilities thanks to the capacitive touch screen embedded into its display LCD module. It is not only offering an easy and convenience way of navigating through your mobile devices with finger but also providing a much more sensitive and responsive touch screen display with greater user experience. However, occasionally you may want to have a very precise touch using stylus and have you ever wonder how good would that be if the capacitive touch can be coupled with resistive touch capability? Here is how the innovative idea from RIM (Research in Motion) that will able to fill the gap. Just recently, the famous mobile manufacturer has just filed a patent on how to have both resistive and capacitive touch screen feature integrated into a single mobile device.
By combining both resistive and capacitive touch screen module into a single device, users will be able to get the best out of it. Firstly, users can enjoy the simple touch with fast response without the need of having any stylus. Besides, they will able to use the stylus for more accurate touch whenever necessary especially on a tiny screen. However, don’t expect it to be cheap since the existing technology with capacitive touch screen is still far more expensive as compared to resistive touch technology. And this hybrid technology could mean even higher cost which would contribute to the whole product BOM (Bill of Material) cost and eventually be reflected into final retail price.
No exact date on when this will be implemented on actual device, or it could be purely a brilliant idea as of now but really hope that the new hybrid technology can be more affordable and be implemented in next generation high end Blackberry devices.
With the current Search Options provided by Gmail, you don’t really able to search messages within a specific date range as defined. You may only able to search messages based the date range as specified in the drop down list, such as 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 6 months and 1 year from certain date. If you would like Gmail to only return you a list of messages within a specific date range as you want, you can assign a date range with proper syntax in the basic search box directly by following below steps.
1. Login to Gmail.
2. Go to Search Mail text box as located on the top of the page.
3. You can filter message by sender, recipient, subject, before and after of a specific date range. Type the search string according to below syntax:
from:xxx@abc.com to:yyy@xyz.com subject:greeting after:YYYY/MM/DD before:YYYY/MM/DD
from: is to indicate the email address of a sender, to: is to indicate the email address of recipient, subject: is the message subject which you want to search for, after: and before: is the date you can define to only return you the list of messages within the date range. For instance, if you only want to search from a specific sender within a specific date range, you can type your searching string as below:
from:john@yahoo.com after:2009/07/01 before:2009/05/01
4. Click Search Mail button to start searching messages based on the searching criteria as defined above.
Hopefully these simple steps will help you to define more accurate email searching at your own preference.
Firefox 3.5 provides you an additional way to open new tab. As similar with Internet Explorer 7/8, you can open new tab by clicking on the “+” sign as located at the end of tab bar. You probably don’t like this feature since you are already comfortable with the existing way of adding new tab, such as CTRL + T, double click on the empty tab bar area or right click on the tab bar and select New Tab. If you feel this feature doesn’t benefit much to you and you would like to remove the “+” sign button, you can do it by using simple trick.
To remove the “+” sign button, you need to edit userChrome.css file and different windows OS stores this file at different location. Follow below steps to get this file edited:
1. For Windows 2000/XP, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\[yourusername]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile.default]\chrome. For Windows Vista/7, navigate to C:\Users\[yourusername]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile.default]\chrome. Since Application Data is considered as hidden folder and if you don’t see it, then you need to go to Windows Explorer and click on Tools -> Folder Options, under View tab look for Hidden files and folders, then enable Show hidden files and folders. Alternatively, you can open Application Data folder directly by typing this syntax, “%APPDATA%” (without double quote) at Run and click OK button to open this folder directly.
2. If you have customized Firefox before, then probably you will have an existing userChrome.css file located at this folder, else just create a new file and named it as userChrome.css.
3. Open userChrome.css by using notepad, then add below string to this file. If you already have userChrome.css file created before, just add this string at the bottom of the file and save it.

Once you have completed above changes, you need to restart Firefox. After restarting Firefox, you will notice the “+’ sign button has been removed.
